Summer is the most beloved time for any kid: there’s no school. And during an Indian Summer, the weather is perfect for outdoor activities and the parents are more in the mood to do all sorts of fun things with kids. If this summer you want to spend more quality time with your kids and create lifelong memories for your family, don’t worry. Here are many ideas that will make this summer the best one so far:
Go camping
There’s no better time to go camping than the summer. The nights are nice and warm and the days are long and filled with fun. So dust off your old camping gear or rent out the new items and head out into nature. You can stay just a night or spend some more time surrounded by fresh air, greenery and sun. There are so many things to do as a family while camping with kids from preparing meals and catching fish to improving your camp and telling fun stories around the campfire. And who knows, maybe camping becomes your family tradition!
Visit the local museum or gallery
Not every summer day is perfect. There are plenty of them that are rainy, humid or too hot for outdoor activities. In that case, instead of staying home in front of the TV, you can pack up your kids and visit your local museum or gallery. Many museums are perfect for family visits, hosting exhibits that are both interesting and educational. You’ll not only going to have a fun afternoon that would otherwise go to waste, but also learn plenty of things as a family.
Get into sports
Keeping your family active is your duty as a parent because sports not only exercise your body and keep you healthy, but they also develop the kids’ social skills and teach them many great things about sportsmanship. Some of the best family sports are basketball, dancing, martial arts and golf. Golfing can be your family sport because it’s perfect for all kids and interesting for parents. It’s moderately active, meaning everyone can keep up, plus the kids love those little golf carts. And you can organize a whole weekend escape if your course has accommodation. For instance, you can both stay and play golf in Scottsdale and have a true family vacation with plenty of sports, but also lux accommodation and great food.
Practice DIY
If you want to teach your kids a few things in a fun way, then DIY can be a perfect summer activity. Those that have a garden can teach kids gardening basics and allow them to care for their yard. If you don’t have an outdoor space, you can engage in summer home improvements like redesigning your balcony, changing the layout of your living room and creating some art for the walls. Kids love to help around the house, especially the younger ones, and they will get to see the fruits of their efforts every day.
Invest in a garden pool
If you can’t go to the beach or your local public pool, you can bright some splashing fun to your home by grabbing a small pool for your garden. These pools are not expensive and you can get plenty of delight from your investment. For the summer, just fill up the pool, grab plenty of beach toys and let the kids splash around, and don’t hesitate to join in on the fun. After a day of splashing and running around soaking wet, both you and your kids will be positively exhausted and ready for dinner and bed. If you have very energetic kids, this summer activity will be just what all of you need.
Have a family photoshoot
If you simply can’t unglue your kids from their phones, why not do something family-friendly with them like have a family photoshoot? This is a super fun activity that everyone will love, especially if you go all-in with the poses and costumes. Get dressed up, look up fun family photoshoot poses and start serving! Your older teens can style you and set you in interesting poses and the younger ones can provide you with hundreds of candid shots. You’re guaranteed to have so much fun and end up with memories that can last you a lifetime. You will undoubtedly come back to these photos regularly. This is both an outdoor and indoor activity, so the weather won’t be a problem.
This Indian summer will put a smile on everyone’s face if you practice at least some of these activities. You’re not just going to entertain your kids, but also spend quality time with your family and deepen the bond between the members—this is what it’s all about!
