Being A Mom
Scattered-brained Mommy
So many of us moms feel guilty when we want alone time. There’s no reason to feel that way. You’re still a human being, you have needs as well. If you need to get your hair done, nails done, get groceries without a screaming child, want to go see a rated R movie, or if you even just need to get a little action in…..DO IT. I’m not saying constantly leave your child with someone to do these things, but every once in a while, it is nice to just be by yourself or to be with friends, without a small human clinging to you or screaming their head off on the floor because you picked the wrong color toy they wanted.
You’re allowed to still be a little selfish and want some alone time.
Believe me, I feel absolutely guilty when I ask someone to watch my child while I go have some “me” time. I’m not a bad mom, I’m actually a really good mom. I work and I go home to my son. I don’t go out, I don’t have any friends (not even mom friends), but when I do need some me time, I know I can always count on my mom (MiMi) to watch my kiddo for a few hours.
I love my child with every fiber of my being, but trust me when I say that there are times when he makes me want to rip my hair out.
If I’m not at work, I’m with my child. If I’m not with my child, I’m at work. But I’m also a college student; online actually but it still counts.
I’m 25 and I’m still me. I still need me time. I’ve always enjoyed being by myself but now that I have a child, I’ve learned to cherish those small moments where I get to be by myself.
I never get to pee alone anymore. I never get to shower without an audience. When I cook, my child will eat the things on my plate but not his; EVEN THOUGH IT’S THE SAME EXACT THINGS.
There are times when I wish I could still just hop in my car and go on a road trip. But as a mom, I have to make sure to pack for a week-long trip even though it might just be a day or two.
I’ve got to make sure I pack enough clothes, underwear, shoes (because he wanted his minion shoes, his paw patrol shoes, his Spiderman shoes, and hisR2D2 shoes), the blue car, the red car, ALL the monster trucks – DON’T YOU DARE FORGET the school bus monster truck, his toy phone, his Lego guy, the helicopter that the Lego guy drives, hot wheels cars, cars, cars, more cars, and about 50 more cars after that.
