My Child

As I sit here reflecting on the life that I’ve had, I can’t help but to pray that you never succumb to the same demons that I have. Ones of pain, insecurity, lack of self-worth, sadness, anger, fear.

Ones that make you wonder what your purpose in life is. Ones that make you look to others for confirmation that you’re worthy of love. And when people let you down, which they will, I hope the demons don’t scream louder, making you deaf to anything above the noise. Making you deaf to the truth about your beauty, your value.

 

Protecting You

I would give my life right now if it meant that I could somehow protect you from ever allowing these things to poison your soul; because you, my love, are everything that is beautiful, everything that makes this world brighter, more colorful.

 

My Everything

You are the sun in the sky, the stars that help me find my way home. The wonder that shines in your eyes at the things that us adults take for granted every single day is incredible.

Your contagious smile spreads like a wildfire no matter who you are around; and just for those few moments while that smile is plastered on your face, it does something to me.

 

 

You Shine

You know those screaming demons I mentioned? Well that smile seems to be the only thing in this world that has the ability to silence them. The ability to make them go away, even if only for a second. The ability to remind me that I did something right, something beautiful, something perfect in this world – I created you.

 

You Are Growing

I know that you are growing so fast, and I will one day look back at all the mistakes I have made; finding regret somewhere along the line. I just hope that you know with all of your heart that I genuinely tried with every ounce of my being to ensure your happiness, because you are my everything.

I know that I can’t shelter you from the world forever, and someday, I will have to set you free to discover the world on your own. I can only pray that you will do so with that same wonder in your eyes, and I will have shown you just how valuable you really are.

You are beautiful. You are amazing. You are loved.
