He is on the move from the moment he wakes up until his head hits the pillow at night. He has no understanding of personal space or alone time.
He always at least three steps ahead of me in public places causing intense anxiety. And when we are running late, that’s when he wants to stop moving just to watch the birds fly.
It’s amazing how much you can learn from a child. Thanks to him, I know how to be silly and take ridiculous selfies with him.
He’s taught me that it doesn’t matter what other people think, as long as we are happy. And now even when I think I want to be alone, he showed me what I really need is a good cuddle.
My baby boy challenges me every day.
Many times I find myself biting my tongue, because I know he experiences the world differently than I do.
For him, I will play “wrestling” when all I want to do is read a book in quiet.
He forces me to go out of my comfort zone in the best ways. And I always will go that extra mile so I don’t stunt his growth.
Although parenting him is still a learning experience, I’m very proud of the person he is. And I’m hopeful for the man he will one day become.
So my sweet, kind, goofy, strong-willed child,
I want you to feel your feelings and be able to express them appropriately.
Remember to stop to watch the birds and find joy in the simplest things.
Always be a good friend and extend your hugs when they are needed.
And never forget to be as proud of your accomplishments as I am.
